SNAILS!!!

I hate, with a passion, snails!!! There is not a single reason they are around other than to be a pest. They are like garden fleas. I know they are part of the food chain and indicate soil conditions and all that BS but I still hate them.

First, I started tomatoes, artichokes, jalapenos, pumpkins, sunflowers, and some basil in the house so that I could have a nice little garden patch to pick from. I nursed these plants from infancy...tilled the soil with my own hands. Then one morning one plant was gone, the next day another and so on. I decided to put salt on the walkway keep the snails out. That did not work they went to the other plants...Then I hunted them. I got my flashlight and sat outside at night and waited for them. I must have killed 50 snails. I do have some experience in the extermination business...the gopher story is legendary. Angela and I still talk about the day we almost blew up the front yard. Anyhow, the darn snails ate my pumpkins, right down to the stem. War on bitches.

I researched the proper way to rid your garden of snails...lavender petals, eggs shells, the last resort was bait. So after sleeping on it I ate eggs for breakfast, went and bought some lavender bushes...drought resistant...and reluctantly bought pet safe bait. Snail problem solved.

So I did resort to the bait but I had to consider how much time and money I had put into the plants I still had. I guess in the end it would be cheaper to buy the darn vegetables at the store....but the pride in growing it yourself and being a part of the land, that is priceless.

It was bound to happen.

So Elana pooped in the tub. This is the day after I wanted to sell her on Craigslist or something. She has been absolutely rotten. Screaming at the top of her lungs for no good reason. I thought it was teething, I thought maybe she has a belly ache...then it occurred to me she just like to hear herself scream. Back to the poop. I grabbed her and plopped her on the toilet not thinking she has no clue what I am doing. She is screaming, pooping and well I have an even bigger mess than if I just left her in the tub. In the end she got another bath, the tub is clean, all the toys are clean and she was happy the rest of the day.

On top of that exciting story....I know the anticipation must be excruciating....Elana is completely weened. Which leaves me with deflated boobs with teeth marks! Oh well nothing a good bra can't handle. I am sure they will be even more lovely if we do this whole kid thing again.

By the way all the people who said breast feeding "helps you lose weight" are freaking liars! Maybe if you were skinny before or have good genes....I was pretty skinny but I lack in the gene department. No offense to my family but Italian and Portuguese heritage could also be called short and portly. It just comes more naturally to us. So after hours at the gym and running, I am at my goal weight. 50 pounds ago I would have never believed I could do it. I remember telling Leaf that my genes have taken over and this is what he has. Lucky for me Leaf puts up with me no matter what.

We have a....Walker

This will go down in infamy....Elana is walking. There is a story of course and I hope that it is not foreshadowing any future behaviour.

Elana took her first steps on April 1st. We have been walking all over holding hands. She can practically run for Pete's sake. So yesterday I decided we should walk outside at my parents and wait for Leaf to come. We walked for about a half hour, picking up rocks, trying to eat leaves, and pounding on trees. At some point Elana found a 10 inch wooden dowel. I let her hold it and we walked a bit and then my mothers voices or was it Gram's...anyway a grandmotherly voice said she could fall on it and poke her eye out. I made Elana sit and play with it. Then Leaf rounded the corner so I grabbed the stick and stood Elana up. She wailed like I beat her with the stick, she then saw Leaf getting out of the car and made a run for him. I grabbed her as she was walking off the curb. I sat her back down and she looked at me and she again walked to Leaf who was now on the sidewalk. I could not even be upset about her tantrum....she is smarter thatn me already.

Elana walked a bit more inside but by the time my parents came home she was tired. Today Elana walked when Camryn came over and made a few extra steps but for now she is still more interested in crawling.

It was cool that both Leaf and I saw Elana make the big move at the same time. There is so many firsts Leaf misses and only hears about. This was a great anniversary present. Tomorrow we are off to the zoo...

Married 10 years...

Okay so I was just trying to bait some readers in. Being married 10 years is amazing...I guess you cannot hear how sarcastic I said that. I am not a yell from the mountain tops, tell everyone I know about how much I love my husband. I love the guy...looking back we did do a lot of things and accomplished tons. Three college degree's, four separate careers, owned 3 houses, Leaf got a hole in one..which I saw sorta of, 3 dogs, a cat, Elana and well. That is just what rolled off my pea brain.

For my mother, who will worry I am a being mean to Leaf, I did get a card (I never get cards, waste of money) and I even added my own little nice note.

It is a little scary and amazing to look back. We were pretty young and I totally had no clue what I was getting into. For some reason I never thought beyond getting married. I loved Leaf and I figured that was enough. At some point I realized we were poor and wanted to move back in with my parents....with Leaf of course. I think those years will be some that we will talk about and laugh about forever. I will say, the last 10 years were not a cake walk but we made it. It was full of many joys and a few bumps. In the end we are a great team and I love Leaf more and more everyday.
